Prompted by the International Day of Provenance Research on April 13, 2022 the German Lost Art Foundation took the opportunity to build on the dialogue between Germany and Israel. The one-day online event focused on the digital research infrastructure of provenance research in the two countries.
Colonial contexts
The autumn conference of the German Lost Art Foundation in November 2021 was dedicated to the often forgotten history preceding the current debate on the return of cultural goods and collections from colonial contexts. At the conference, more than 40 scholars and experts examined the long history of resistance against colonial looting and of demands for the return of cultural heritage. The conference was held in cooperation with the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz and The Research Center for Material Culture of the National Museum of World Cultures, the Netherlands.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Washington Principles, the German Lost Art Foundation – in cooperation with the Kulturstiftung der Länder and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz – held an international specialist conference "20 Years Washington Principles: Roadmap for the Future" from November 26 to 28, 2018 at the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt” in Berlin. The conference was sponsored by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media.

On the occasion of the so called “fall conference” – hosted by the German Lost Art Foundation –, noted international experts gave lectures on the subject of systematic art theft in France, reviewing the results of research performed on this topic under the heading "Theft & Trade. The French Art Market Under German Occupation (1940-1944)".

The conference, organized by the German Lost Art Foundation, allowed the Foundation to present itself to a wide audience for the first time in Saxony-Anhalt.
Soviet zone / GDR
Led by executive board member Uwe M. Schneede, the conference organized by the German Lost Art Foundation in conjunction with the Stiftung Brandenburger Tor gave an overview of the current state of research into the confiscation of cultural assets in the Soviet Occupation Zone and the GDR and opened up new research perspectives.

The conference “New Perspectives on Provenance Research in Germany” on 27-28 November at the Jewish Museum in Berlin was a major success for the German Lost Art Foundation. Directed by Uwe M. Schneede, member of the executive board, the conference welcomed approximately 350 participants on both days.
