Conference "Colonized Objects and Bodies in Europe. New challenges and new perspectives on the Decolonialization of Cultural Heritage"
Ende 25.06.2022
Ort Würzburg Veranstalter University of Würzburg, University of Padova, Forum Africa Centre, Coimbra Group
The debate about the restitution of African cultural objects that reached Europe during the colonial era has become much more important in recent years. Museums and universities, with their collections and their self-image, are more than ever the focus of a global debate on the colonial past, culture of remembrance and restitution. This observation leads to the following questions, among others: How colonial is the cultural heritage in Europe and how can it be decolonised? What role do European museums and university collections play in this decolonisation?
Answers to these and other questions will be discussed at the conference "Colonized Objects and Bodes in Europe. New challenges and new perspectives on the Decolonization of Cultural Heritage" on 24 and 25 June 2022 in Würzburg, in order to update the view of European museum and collection cultures from different perspectives.
The event will take place in hybrid form and in English. Participation in the conference programme in the Central Lecture Hall Building of the University of Würzburg and online is free of charge. Registration is possible until 22 June 2022.
