Date 2015.11.17

The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart has become the first museum in the world to offer visitors an audio guide which provides information about the provenance of various artworks in its collection. The eleven works discussed in the audio guide are paintings which are suspected of being Nazi-looted works.

The Staatsgalerie has been conducting intensive provenance research on its collection since 2009. The efforts were initially funded by the former Office of Provenance Research (now the German Lost Art Foundation) in cooperation with the state of Baden-Württemberg. In 2015 the Staatsgalerie established a permanent position to continue the investigations.
