German Lost Art Foundation and the Museumsverband Sachsen-Anhalt (Museum Association of Saxony-Anhalt) outline pilot project on provenance research in Saxony-Anhalt – Preliminary assessment at five museums

Date 2016.04.20

Sophie Leschik, project funding advisor at the German Lost Art Foundation, and Susanne Kopp-Sievers, managing director of the Museumsverband Sachsen-Anhalt e. V. (Museum Association of Saxony-Anhalt), discussed the possibilities of implementing a pilot project on provenance research in Saxony-Anhalt yesterday.

The aim of such a project would be to conduct a preliminary assessment of five selected museums in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in order to determine whether their collections potentially contain cultural assets seized through Nazi persecution (“Nazi confiscated property”). Depending on the results of the preliminary assessments, the museums could decide whether or not to conduct more extensive, long-term provenance research.
