State art theft in the GDR: SWR2 Forum in discussion with Uwe Hartmann

The SWR2 Fo­rum led a dis­cus­sion on the con­fis­ca­tion of cul­tur­al as­sets in the So­vi­et Oc­cu­pa­tion Zone and the GDR with Uwe Hart­mann (head of the Prove­nance Re­search De­part­ment at the Ger­man Lost Art Foun­da­tion in Magde­burg), Ulf Bischof (lawyer, Berlin) and Gilbert Lupfer (head of Re­search and Sci­en­tif­ic Co­op­er­a­tion, Staatliche Kun­st­samm­lun­gen Dres­den). The dis­cus­sion cov­ered a range of is­sues in­clud­ing the his­tor­i­cal con­text and unan­swered ques­tions, chal­lenges and tasks fac­ing pol­i­cy­mak­ers.

The Ger­man Lost Art Foun­da­tion is or­ga­niz­ing a con­fer­ence on this top­ic on Novem­ber 21 in Berlin.
