German Lost Art Foundation continues dialog with art collectors and art trade
On May 16, 2017, Rüdiger Hütte (full time member of the Foundation’s Executive Board), Prof. Gilbert Lupfer (academic director) and academic assistants from the Foundation met with representatives from art trade and gallery associations, art dealers and collectors at the German Lost Art Foundation in order to resume the dialog begun in 2015.
The meeting centered on the presentation and in-depth discussion of a report by Prof. Matthias Weller (EBS Universität Wiesbaden). His report confronted the legal issues that could arise in connection with a database on transactions of art works in the period 1933–1945 and the indexing of documents from art dealers.
All parties involved expressed a wish for the dialog to continue. It should focus on the discussion of concrete opportunities for cooperation, which would utilize the provenance research and enable new research into artworks seized between 1933 and 1945 as a result of persecution.
