Network of European Restitution Committees publishes fifth newsletter

At the start of 2019, a net­work was formed of five com­mit­tees in Eu­rope that deal with the re­search and resti­tu­tion of cul­tur­al prop­er­ty loot­ed by the Nazis. This net­work has now pub­lished its fifth newslet­ter (PDF, 3 MB).

The net­work con­sists of the Be­ra­tende Kom­mis­sion im Zusam­men­hang mit der Rück­gabe NS-ver­fol­gungs­be­d­ingt ent­zo­ge­nen Kul­turguts, ins­beson­dere aus jüdis­chem Be­sitz (Ger­many), the Com­mis­sion pour l’in­dem­ni­sa­tion des vic­times de spo­li­a­tions (France), the Spo­li­a­tion Ad­vi­so­ry Pan­el (UK), the Resti­tu­tiecom­missie (Nether­lands) and the Kom­mis­sion für Prove­nien­z­forschung (Aus­tria).

The prin­ci­ples of co­op­er­a­tion were agreed at the in­ter­na­tion­al Spo­li­a­tion Con­fer­ence held in Lon­don in Septem­ber 2017. One year lat­er, the five com­mit­tees put this idea in­to prac­tice and set out the con­di­tions for co­op­er­a­tion with­in their re­spec­tive po­lit­i­cal man­dates and struc­tures.
