Statement issued by the German Lost Art Foundation concerning the war in Ukraine
The German Lost Art Foundation views the current development of the war in Ukraine with great concern. It condemns the attack on Ukraine by the Russian side and calls for an immediate end to the war as well as a swift resolution of the conflict between the states concerned.
The Director of the Foundation, Prof. Dr. Gilbert Lupfer, says: “Our mandate is derived in particular from the consequences of National Socialist persecution and the Second World War. Through its work, the Foundation attempts to make some contribution to reparations, if that is at all possible. New wars inevitably lead to new suffering and new injustice, as is the case now in Ukraine.”
The mission of the Foundation is to promote dialogue, tolerance and international understanding. Like the former Magdeburg Coordination Office, one of its predecessor institutions, the Foundation has cooperated with numerous cultural heritage institutions in Ukraine for years in a spirit of trust.
