Press release by the Press and Information Office of the German Federal Government

Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Monika Grütters, on the death of culture senator Barbara Kisseler

Date 2016.10.10

Berlin, 10. Oktober 2016

It is with great dismay and sadness that I learned of the death of Barbara Kisseler. Not only did we both share a passion for culture, we were also personally close – firstly, in a united effort to support cultural policy in and for Berlin, and latterly in our constant efforts to promote culture in Germany, in what was always a very beneficial partnership. Barbara Kisseler was a woman of style and stature. She was always an important discussion partner for me.

Culture lovers, artists and creatives have lost one of Germany’s most distinguished cultural politicians. She was an authority on cultural policy who loved her work and who always pursued her goals with tenacity, dedicating herself to the arts and culture with passion and expertise. I would like to express my deepest condolences to her family.

I shall miss Barbara Kisseler much more than simply as a politician.
