German Lost Art Foundation in the “Network for the Protection of Cultural Property in Ukraine”

The German Lost Art Foundation is a member of the “Network for the Protection of Cultural Property in Ukraine”, which has been established by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the Federal Foreign Office and is run by ICOM Germany. The Network seeks to contribute to the protection of cultural treasures as well as collating information and coordinating aid measures. The Foundation supports networking and the exchange of information in this connection. It also offers to collect and secure data for cultural heritage institutions in Ukraine. Lynn Rother, Senior Provenance Specialist at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, describes the transaction in which the State of Prussia bought more than 4,000 artworks from the Dresdner Bank for the Berlin museums for the huge sum of 7.5 million Reichsmarks on August 15, 1935.
