The Herzog August Library restitutes historic work to the Grand National Mother Lodge “The Three Globes”

The library Herzog August Bibliothek (HAB) has returned a multi-volume pharmaceutical work by pharmacist and alchemist Johann Rudolph Glauber (1604-1670) to its rightful owner, namely the Grand National Mother Lodge “The Three Globes”. Museum Natur und Mensch Freiburg is once again to receive funding from the German Lost Art Foundation

In January 2023, the Museum Natur und Mensch Freiburg started to undertake more in-depth provenance research into items in its ethnological collection by launching a project entitled Die S.M.S. SPK restitutes Nursing Madonna statuette to the heirs of Jakob Goldschmidt

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) has returned a Nursing Madonna statuette dating back to the 16th century to the heirs of Jewish banker and entrepreneur Jakob Goldschmidt. The book Kunst, Konflikt, Kollaboration. Hildebrand Gurlitt und die Moderne (“Art, conflict, collaboration. Hildebrand Gurlitt and modernism”) has now been published by De Gruyter as volume 14 in its series of papers on “degenerate art” (Schriften der Forschungsstelle “Entartete Kunst”). The volume was published to accompany the exhibition Gurlitt in review in Bern and is based on extensive research into Hildebrand Gurlitt’s art holdings.
