German Lost Art Foundation funds six short-term research projects
The executive board of the German Lost Art Foundation – Rüdiger Hütte and Prof. Dr. Uwe M. Schneede – approved funding for six short-term research projects. A total of 80,000 euros will go toward financing project proposals submitted by the following institutions:
- Kunsthalle Bremen
- Märkisches Museum Witten
- Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe
- Stadtmuseum Oldenburg
- Städtische Museen Wetzlar
- Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf
The average funding duration of these provenance research projects is three to six months. They primarily aim to clarify individual cases, particularly in response to concrete inquiries for information or claims of restitution directed at public institutions.
In its joint session on 21 May 2015, the Foundation’s advisory committee recommended funding to seventeen longer-term projects which aim to systematically examine in-house collections to determine whether they contain artistic and cultural assets which were confiscated through persecution by the Nazi regime.
